This week I’m passing on a message of preparation.
D&C 38:30 “If ye are prepared, ye shall not fear.”
The Boy Scout Motto: Be Prepared

I’m sure you have heard in the news lately about the Swine Flu that started in Mexico.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has a web site. It is a great source for information about the state of health in the US. One their site the question is asked,
“Will a pandemic influenza occur? If so, when will it happen?”
The answer, “
“Many scientists believe it is a matter of time until the next influenza pandemic occurs. However, the timing and severity of the next pandemic cannot be predicted. Influenza pandemics occurred three times in the past century — in 1918-19, 1957-58, and 1968-69.”
— A matter of time…
The pandemic in 1918, the Spanish Flu, killed between 20-50 million world wide. In that day an age, it had wide effects on both the east and west coasts within one week and had moved across all major populated areas of the US within TWO WEEKS. Imagine how quickly something like that would travel with our very mobile society today.

BYU – Idaho has taken great lengths to help prepare and train its employees and students. This video is a little long (15 minutes), but I highly recommend it. It is specific to Avian Flu, but will educate you about specifics to these types of threats and what you can do to protect yourself and your family.
**I especially recommend it for those with small children:
